This Workshop aims to: -Help children identify how they are feeling, learn names for feelings and gain more insight into effective coping strategies. -Help children understand that worry and anxiety are normal feelings that everyone experiences -Introduce children to mindfulness meditation through the breath meditation Overview: 1. Get to know you activity - circle 2. Explain the purpose of the group: to help them feel more relaxed, stay calm and learn strategies to help with worries or stress 3. Feelings check in - children use animal feelings cards to choose how they have been feeling lately. If they would like to share with the group, they can 4. After sharing, I will guide the children to see if they can group the ‘feelings’ cards into groups - i.e, ‘nice’ or ‘uncomfortable’ 5. Discussion - Why is it important to know how we are feeling? - support children in understanding that feelings can give us important messages/when we understand our feelings and share it with others, they can help us. 6. Explain that mindfulness and stopping/noticing how we feel can help us connect with and understand our feelings better. 7. Run through a mindful breathing exercise - meditation stones on belly, then guided breath meditation. Each of the children will take home their own ‘meditation stone’ to practice belly breathing at home, and will be given feelings flashcard on a lanyard to practice expressing how they feel by choosing the relevant feeling on the lanyard.
